At North Devon footcare we can offer a variety of conventional treatments for your foot ailments including nail cutting, hard skin reduction, verruca treatment, fungal nail treatment, orthotic therapy and exercise prescription. But probably the most underrated treatment we offer our patients is education and reassurance.

With the widespread use of the internet and social media, so much information is available to us at the click of a button. This can be a blessing and a curse, whilst there are plenty of great resources and advice about foot and lower limb health. There is also a lot of bad information out there, mostly to sell “treatments and products” that are “guaranteed” to fix problems in a stupidly quick timeline, I should know as my social media timelines seem to be full of them. There is also misinformation about how certain changes in your feet or some pathologies are only going to get worse and worse and cause huge problems to your overall health and quality of life, again mostly to sell things or just to create interest and clicks. Unsurprisingly, this can cause great anxiety and worry for people who may recognize some of the symptoms or changes they see in their feet.
That’s where finding yourself a good podiatrist who is an expert in most of the thing’s foot-related comes into play. We will listen to your fears, worries and anxieties, no matter how trivial they seem, they are always valid. We will assess your feet and lower limb and then give you advice and education alongside any treatment that is indicated and agreed with you. Quite often we provide physical treatment alongside advice, education and reassurance but sometimes no physical treatment is required at all.
This was the case with a couple of my patients yesterday who came in for quite different reasons. But they were similar in that they had valid and legitimate concerns about their foot health, and how it could affect their quality of life. In both cases no physical treatment was given as it was not necessary. Just education, reassurance and advice, physical treatment was discussed as an option but agreed upon that it was not needed at the present time. It may be needed in the future, or it may not, sometimes it is hard to predict how things will progress or not. But we agreed that physical treatment will be there as an option in the future IF REQUIRED. Both patients reported that they felt a lot less anxious and worried about their foot health and reassured that things were not certain to regress to a bigger issue in the future.
If you have any foot health worries then we are here for you to offer treatment or sometimes just reassurance. Book an initial assessment HERE
