Here are some orthoses that we have made for a patient to assist in their treatment plan.

Firstly, we performed a full biomechanical assessment which included taking a detailed medical history, assessing joint strength and range of movement. Doing some gait analysis which included using Footscan to measure pressure in the feet both statically and when walking.
From this assessment and using our own clinical judgement as well as taking the patients own preferences into account we decided on a treatment plan to fix their foot pain and reduce the risk of it returning in future.
This patient’s treatment plan included:
· Education on the injury itself, how it likely occurred and what can be done to help reduce the risk of it returning in the future.
· Education on footwear that will benefit the patient and the injury and advice on load management including playing sport.
· Exercises to perform that will help strengthen structures of the foot and lower leg.
· Prescription of Orthoses to help reduce stress on the injury and help it recover and become pain free.
Orthoses are not just one size fits all treatment, not everyone would benefit from them and just because you get prescribed some to help recovery from an injury, it doesn’t mean you will have to wear some for the rest of your life.
Orthoses come in all sorts of materials, shapes and sizes. They can be generic off the shelf devices, modified off the shelf or custom made to your feet.
We provide patients with Orthoses for many different reasons including:
· Offloading a certain area of the foot to reduce acute pain and pressure.
· Encourage movement in certain structures of the foot.
· Reduce stress on a joint/ tendon in the foot that has pain to help it recover.
If you are suffering from foot pain, book yourself in for a biomechanical assessment with us. We will consider all factors that can contribute to pain and injury including you as an individual. It’s not just mechanical factors that cause pain. But it may be part of it, and you may benefit from being prescribed some Orthoses.
